Why P3?
The name “P3”, in fact, it is “P Cubed” or “P to the power of 3”; if truth be told, it was born out of the principles behind
First Aid as explained below.
First aid training is guided by the “3 P’s”:- PRESERVE Life, PREVENT Deterioration, and PROMOTE Recovery, which are essential principles for managing emergencies. These aims guide responders to keep the patient alive, prevent worsening of injuries, and support healing until professional medical assistance arrives.
PRESERVE
The primary goal is to save lives. This involves assessing dangers to yourself and the patient, and applying essential techniques like CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) to keep the airway and blood circulating.
PREVENT
The second aim is to prevent the patient’s condition from getting worse. This includes managing injuries (e.g., applying bandages to stop bleeding), keeping a casualty sill, and offering reassurance to prevent shock.
PROMOTE
The third aim involves taking actions that that aid the recovery process. This involves treating injuries such as burns with cool water, treating for shock, and ensuring prompt, expert medical assistance is called for.
