At P3 First Aid Training, we believe first aid training should be far more than simply gaining a certificate. Real first aid education should build confidence, develop practical skills, and prepare people to respond calmly and effectively during genuine emergency situations.
Whether you are completing an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course, First Aid at Work (FAW) Course, Paediatric First Aid (PFA) Training, or First Response Emergency Care (FREC) Courses, the quality of the training experience matters enormously.
As one of the co-owners of P3 First Aid Training, my teaching journey did not begin at the front of the classroom – it began sitting in one (as a learner).
Why We Started P3 First Aid Training
Over the years, I attended numerous first aid and pre-hospital emergency care courses myself. While the information being delivered was factually correct, something often felt missing.
Too much training relied heavily on PowerPoint presentations and textbook delivery, with little real-life context or meaningful engagement. Learners were being taught what to do, but not always why it mattered or how these situations genuinely feel in real emergencies.
That was the turning point.
At P3 First Aid Training, we built our company around the belief that the best first aid training comes from real-world experience combined with supportive, engaging teaching methods. Learners deserve more than just theory – they deserve realistic, practical, confidence-building training delivered by instructors who have worked within emergency care environments themselves.
Real-World Emergency Experience Shapes Better Training
Between the two owners of P3 First Aid Training, we bring together extensive experience in:
- Ambulance and pre-hospital care
- Event medical services
- Emergency response environments
- Workplace first aid training
- Technical and vocational instruction
- Practical scenario-based education
This experience allows us to deliver first aid courses that feel realistic, relevant, and memorable.
We strongly believe people learn best through involvement, practical scenarios, discussion, and hands-on experience – not simply by reading slides from a screen.
That is why our courses are designed to be interactive, supportive, and built around genuine emergency care situations.
Every Day Is a School Day
One of the most rewarding aspects of delivering first aid training is that learning never stops – even as instructors.
Recently, while delivering a course in Shrewsbury alongside my co-founder Dave, we were teaching staff and volunteers from a horse-riding centre. During a session covering the Recovery Position, one delegate shared a simple yet brilliant tip she had learned during cadet training.
If a casualty is wearing glasses, remove them before repositioning the casualty and place them safely into their open hand once they are in the Recovery Position.
It was such a small detail, yet incredibly thoughtful and practical. It also reinforced something we strongly believe at P3:
Good trainers never stop learning.
Since then, we have passed that advice on to countless learners during future courses.
Modern First Aid Training Must Reflect Real Emergencies
At P3 First Aid Training, every course covers essential lifesaving skills including:
- CPR and Basic Life Support
- Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Recovery Position
- Choking management
- Casualty assessment
- Medical emergencies
However, modern first aid training must now go much further.
We place significant emphasis on catastrophic bleeding and trauma management due to the unfortunate increase in serious traumatic incidents across society, including knife crime and severe workplace injuries.
Our courses are also tailored to the industries and environments our learners work within. For example:
- Construction environments may focus heavily on falls from height and crush injuries
- Equestrian centres often require additional understanding of head injuries and trauma
- Schools and childcare settings may focus more on paediatric emergencies, seizures, and anaphylaxis
- Event medical environments often involve trauma care and dynamic scene management
This tailored approach helps learners feel genuinely prepared for the situations they may face in real life.
Supporting First Aiders Beyond the Classroom
One area often overlooked within first aid training is the emotional impact an incident can have on the First Aider themselves.
In ambulance and emergency care environments, systems often exist to support staff following traumatic incidents. Outside of those sectors, many workplace First Aiders are frequently left without guidance or support after dealing with difficult situations.
At P3 First Aid Training, we believe support should not end when the course finishes.
Every learner who trains with us leaves with our contact details because we genuinely care about the people we teach. If somebody ever needs reassurance, guidance, or simply somebody to speak with after dealing with an emergency incident, we are always happy to help.

Common First Aid Myths We Regularly Challenge
One of the biggest misconceptions we still encounter is the belief that “CPR only works if rescue breaths are given”.
While rescue breaths may form part of ideal CPR in many situations, compression-only CPR absolutely saves lives and is far better than doing nothing at all. Correct chest compressions circulate oxygen already present within the bloodstream and can keep somebody alive until emergency services arrive.
Another outdated myth is that “somebody having a seizure should be restrained”.
This is incorrect and potentially dangerous. Instead, the priority should always be:
- Protecting the casualty from injury
- Supporting the head
- Removing nearby hazards
- Preserving dignity and privacy
These are exactly the types of practical, real-world conversations we encourage during our courses.
Why Scenario-Based Training Builds Confidence
One of the most common pieces of feedback we receive is how realistic our training feels.
Because we continue working within emergency care and event medical environments, we are able to bring genuine experiences into the classroom. Learners repeatedly tell us that this realism helps them understand not only what to do, but why rapid intervention matters.
Confidence is one of the most important outcomes of effective first aid training because hesitation during an emergency can cost valuable time.
The Importance of CPR and AED Awareness
We often discuss the televised cardiac arrest suffered by footballer Fabrice Muamba during a football match in 2012.
The rapid recognition of cardiac arrest, immediate CPR, early defibrillation, and professional emergency care ultimately saved his life.
It remains one of the most powerful real-world examples of why public access defibrillators, CPR training, and confident first aiders are so important.
Fabrice Muamba went on to become the ambassador for Arrhythmia Alliance Hearts and Goals campaign, undertaking some valuable supportive work worldwide.
Choosing the Right First Aid Training Provider
When selecting a first aid training provider, price should never be the only deciding factor.
Ask questions such as:
- Do the trainers have real-world emergency care experience?
- Is the training practical and engaging?
- Are realistic scenarios included?
- Will learners leave feeling confident?
- Is the training tailored to your workplace environment?
At P3 First Aid Training, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, supportive, scenario-based first aid training that puts people first.
The Future of First Aid Training
First aid training has evolved enormously over recent years. Public awareness surrounding conditions such as:
- Sepsis
- Stroke
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- Catastrophic Bleeding
- Anaphylaxis
has increased dramatically, and first aid education must evolve alongside those changes.
Skills once reserved primarily for military or battlefield medicine – such as tourniquet use and haemostatic dressings – are now becoming essential components of modern civilian first aid training.
We remain committed to continual professional development and regularly review updated guidance from organisations including:
This ensures every learner receives current, relevant, and evidence-based first aid training.
Final Thoughts
At P3 First Aid Training, we believe first aid is not simply about passing a course. It is about developing the confidence, skills, and mindset to act during somebody’s worst moment.
Realistic, engaging, and supportive training creates confident people – and confident people save lives.
Whether you are completing workplace first aid training, paediatric first aid training, AED training, or progressing into pre-hospital emergency care, our mission remains the same:
To deliver practical, real-world training that empowers people to step forward when it matters most.
