Course Introduction
Knowing what to do when a baby or child becomes ill or injured can make a huge difference. This practical course is designed specifically for parents, carers, grandparents and others who look after children, providing the confidence and essential first aid skills needed to respond to common childhood emergencies.
Course Overview
This practical course focuses on the first aid situations parents and carers are most likely to face at home and in everyday life. Training is delivered in a supportive, hands-on environment, with plenty of opportunity to practise essential skills and ask questions.
Topics include infant and child CPR, choking, seizures and febrile convulsions, wounds and bleeding, burns and scalds, head injuries, and recognising when a child may be seriously unwell and needs emergency medical help.
This is an awareness course designed to build practical confidence. It is not intended to replace a regulated workplace or Early Years paediatric first aid qualification where one is required.
Course Aim
This course aims to give parents and carers the practical skills and confidence to recognise and respond to common first aid emergencies involving babies and children, while understanding when professional or emergency medical help is needed.

No previous first aid knowledge or experience is required.

Certification
Participants will receive a P3 First Aid Training Certificate of Attendance on completion of the course.
This is a non-regulated awareness course and does not replace a workplace or Early Years paediatric first aid qualification where one is required.

Will I get to practise CPR and choking techniques?
Yes. Practical participation is an important part of the course. Learners have the opportunity to practise key emergency skills, including infant and child CPR and responding to choking, using appropriate training equipment.
Does the course include using an AED?
Yes. The course includes awareness of AEDs and their safe use as part of responding to a cardiac emergency. The emphasis is on helping parents and carers understand what to do and feel confident taking action.
Can this course be delivered for a parent group, school, nursery or community organisation?

Do I need any previous first aid experience?
No. The course is suitable for complete beginners as well as people who have previously attended first aid training and would like to refresh their practical skills.
