Course Overview
This course provides practical training in adult Basic Life Support, CPR and the safe use of an AED. Learners will develop a structured approach to assessing an unresponsive casualty, calling for emergency assistance and delivering effective resuscitation.
The course is suitable for workplaces, healthcare and care settings, community organisations, sports clubs and other groups wanting practical CPR and AED training. Delivery can also be adapted to reflect the needs and environment of a particular organisation.
Course Aim
This course aims to give learners the practical skills and confidence to recognise cardiac arrest, summon emergency assistance, perform effective adult CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely. The emphasis is on practical participation and developing the confidence to act quickly in a real emergency.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will learn how to:
- Recognise an unresponsive casualty and assess breathing
- Summon appropriate emergency assistance
- Recognise cardiac arrest
- Perform effective adult CPR
- Understand the importance of early defibrillation
- Operate an AED safely and effectively
- Follow AED prompts while continuing effective CPR

Who Should Attend?
This course is suitable for anyone who may need to respond to a medical emergency in the workplace or community, including staff in healthcare and care settings, schools, sports clubs, community organisations and businesses.
No previous first aid experience is required. The course is also suitable for people wishing to refresh their existing CPR and AED skills.
Duration
3 Hours
The course is delivered with a strong practical focus, allowing time for learners to practise CPR, AED use and other essential Basic Life Support skills.
Certification
Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an FAIB-accredited Basic Life Support (BLS) & AED certificate, confirming successful completion of the training.

Suggested Progression
Learners are encouraged to refresh their CPR and AED skills regularly to maintain confidence and practical competence. P3 First Aid Training can also provide further first aid training, including Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work where a recognised workplace first aid qualification is required.
