Catastrophic Bleeding & Bleed Kit Awareness
Recognise. Respond. Control the Bleed.
Course Overview
Catastrophic Bleeding & Bleed Kit Awareness provides practical training in the immediate management of severe and life-threatening bleeding. Participants explore a structured approach to bleeding control, progressing from direct pressure through to wound packing and the appropriate use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings.
The session includes practical familiarisation with bleed-kit equipment and realistic skills-based scenarios, helping participants understand not only what equipment is available, but when and how it may be used.
Course Aim
The aim of this session is to give participants the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to recognise catastrophic bleeding, summon emergency assistance and take appropriate action to control life-threatening blood loss until professional medical help arrives.

Do I need previous first aid experience?
No. Previous first aid training is not required. The session is also suitable for existing first aiders who want to develop additional practical bleeding-control skills.
Will I practise wound packing?
Yes. Practical participation is central to the session, including the opportunity to develop and practise appropriate wound-packing techniques using training equipment.
Will I learn how to use a tourniquet?
Yes. The session covers when a tourniquet may be required and includes practical familiarisation and application using appropriate training tourniquets.
Does the session cover haemostatic dressings?
Yes. Participants will learn about the role of haemostatic dressings within catastrophic bleeding management and how they may form part of an effective bleeding-control response.
Can the training include our own bleed kit?
Yes. Where appropriate, the session can incorporate familiarisation with your organisation’s bleed-kit provision so participants better understand the equipment available to them in an emergency.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. Participants who complete the session will receive a P3 First Aid Training Certificate of Attendance confirming completion of Catastrophic Bleeding & Bleed Kit Awareness training.
Is this a first aid qualification?
No. Catastrophic Bleeding & Bleed Kit Awareness is practical supplementary training and is not a regulated or accredited first aid qualification. It is designed to develop additional emergency bleeding-control skills and can complement existing first aid training.
